Tasks of the scientific staff works council

Our tasks include the perception and promotion of the economic, social, health and cultural interests of the entire scientific university staff at Montanuniversität Leoben. Our goal is to achieve a balance of interests with the university management for the benefit of our employees. We act free of instructions, honorary and unpaid, are bound to secrecy and represent only after assignment.

We monitor compliance with all legal provisions, the collective bargaining agreement, company agreements and all regulations concerning employee protection. The university management has to provide us with information on all matters concerning the academic staff. We hold monthly discussions with the university management on ongoing matters of operational management in social, personnel, economic and technical respects, as well as on the organization of working conditions. We have the right to intervene with the university management in all matters affecting the interests of our colleagues, and, if necessary, with any competent bodies outside the university. We are represented in the University Council and the Senate of Montanuniversität Leoben.

Our activities:

  • Monitoring labour and social legislation
  • Participating in the recruitment of new workers and the right to insight into relevant information
  • The right to comment on lay offs or dismissals and to challenge them in court
  • The right to monitor employees' personal data
  • The right to have a say in workplace design
  • The right to conclude agreements affecting all employees

We offer assistance and personal counselling. If conflict situations arise in the work environment, we arbitrate and offer mediation. We treat all matters with strict confidentiality. We constantly strive to improve working conditions and promote an optimal working atmosphere. We provide information on and ensure the greatest possible transparency in university events.
